The Charge Rioja Tempranillo Garnacha

1 review

Aromas of berries and warm spice with a touch of coffee and dark chocolate. The palate is generous with beautifully complex red berry and spicy fruit, supple tannins, juicy acidity and a hint of black pepper. All balanced by mocha and toasty notes from oak maturation.

A Nice Fresh Rioja

This weighs in 13.5% and its approximately 65% tempranillo with garnacha featuring heavily in the rest. My top tip on this one is to decant it and let it sit, Google La Báscula for 40 minutes and come back to a different wine (once the Garnacha has stopped the Tempranillo overpowering it). Aroma : initially big black fruits and spice but after decanting it gets a lot more depth and the oak and red fruits are allowed a say; To taste: for me it's quite lively for a rioja, even after decanting. It's dry, the acidic edge has been taken away and although the tannins are still there they are much more manageable. Key notes for me would be the cherry and tobacco from the tempranillo but that lighter summer fruit from the garnacha punches it's weight and smoothes the whole glass off before you are left with that lovely alcohol and tannin finish. Not what I was expecting, and I dedicated a good 90 minutes to reviewing this (what a hero eh)...
