A lovely fresh Malbec

This one is produced by Nieto Senetiner of Mendoza (Argentina) and comes in at 13% abv and at an offer price of £7.45 it's great value. Nieto Senetiner introduced this wine to bring a younger and fresher Malbec to their portfolio so if you are looking for those big jammy malbec and oak flavours then this isn't it. In the glass : it's quite opaque and it's colour is more reminiscent of a traditional red. On the nose : it's dark fruit rich and a little more oaked than its two months in barrels would suggest. To taste: it's immediately juicy but lighter than your average malbec. It has a black cherry freshness with a hint of red fruit and a touch of balsamic acidity. Add a little milk chocolate to the flavour and a respectable level of tannins which help deliver that medium long finish and all told you have a nice drop of wine for the price (as long as you weren't expecting a big, in your face kind of malbec). Would I buy it again? At this price absolutely. It's a nice versatile wine that you could easily pair with pasta or light meats and cheeses, or enjoy as an aperitif.
