Making cognacs suitable for drinking young is exceptionally difficult without the use of caramel and sugar syrup. The 2005 has succeeded where others have failed. Its style is consistent with others from Chez Richon with some mocha and toffee flavours, a delight for such youthfulness.
The nose gives chocolatey mocha, with walnuts and notes of vanilla followed by tangerine peel. The initial mocha flavours on the palate lead to toffee, hazelnut and spices such as mace. A true masterpiece at this age!
Aged in 350 litre casks, 6 to 8 months in new and then old Limousin casks. Cellars are medium damp with natural floors.
