Barossa Australian Wines

Where the Barossa Valley is located

The Barossa Valley sits in South Australia, just north east of Adelaide. It is one of the country’s oldest wine regions, with vineyards dating back to the mid 1800s and some of the oldest producing vines in the world.

Climate and ancient vineyards

Barossa has a warm continental climate with hot summers and low rainfall, ideal for producing ripe, full flavoured grapes. Many vineyards are dry grown, with deep rooted old vines contributing intensity, concentration and natural balance to the wines.

The Barossa style

Barossa wines are known for their bold personality. Reds are typically rich, generous and powerful, yet well structured. Shiraz leads the way, offering dark fruit, spice, chocolate and savoury depth, while Grenache and GSM blends add brightness and complexity.

Shiraz at the heart of Barossa

Barossa Shiraz is world famous for its depth and richness. Styles range from plush and approachable to complex, age worthy wines capable of developing for decades. Oak ageing often adds layers of vanilla, spice and mocha without overpowering the fruit.

Grenache and classic blends

Old vine Grenache thrives in the Barossa, producing wines with ripe red fruit, warmth and silky texture. GSM blends bring together Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre to create balanced wines combining fruit, spice and savoury structure.

Premium and collectible wines

The Barossa is home to some of Australia’s most iconic wines, with long lived reds that reward careful cellaring. These wines combine power with finesse and are often considered benchmarks of Australian winemaking.

Food pairing and enjoyment

Barossa wines are natural partners for bold food. Shiraz pairs beautifully with roast meats, barbecued dishes and slow cooked stews. Grenache and blends work well with grilled vegetables, rich pasta dishes and hearty comfort food.
