Cariñena is a D.O.P. in Spain in the Aragon region of Spain, one of the earliest Denomination Origin Protection regions. The area also gives its name to the grape variety Cariñena which is known as Carignan in France and now as Mazuelo in Spain. Recently the style of wines made from Mazuelo have changed from high alcohol rustic wines to a lighter fruity style and exports have increased dramatically.
